After 5 years together, from Ottawa to Brooklyn to Sudbury and then starting a letterpress stationery company together, it was finally time for me to propose to Chantal.
So, on January 1st I gave Chantal an old Collier’s Cyclopedia from 1883. Inside the book I included 22 illustrations to accompany a story I wrote for her, and on the last page she opened a small flap to reveal a 100 year old brass ring with a detailed Art Nouveau red coral setting, hidden inside the book. It was a lot of fun to put this proposal together, and a little tricky with Chantal’s drafting table right next to mine.

Thankfully it all worked out though, and we’re now in the midst of planning our own wedding and designing our invitation set (letterpress, of course!).
The proposal is featured on the great blog Design*Sponge today. You can also read more about the proposal on my illustration blog.
Thanks to everyone who’s sent along their best wishes, we really appreciate it!
Joel and I have discovered that doing wedding shows is pretty gruelling work. However, the Wedding Show 2010 was the most enjoyable one to date! Everyone was so nice and it was fantastic to talk to all the other vendors who are doing incredible things. We want to thank everyone who stopped by the Papillon Press table and chatted with us. We look forward to working with you soon!

The quality of the vendors at the Wedding Show was outstanding. Here are a few of my personal favourites:
The Caketress makes the most amazing cakes I’ve ever seen.
Ostrich feathers, cameos & antique edible buttons= you can't go wrong.
Event Decorator Elizabeth Johnson has some serious good taste when it comes to decorating. We like how her décor is not all shiny “wedding” décor. She does lovely weddings in the Muskokas.
Dana Gils, owner of Quirky Beauty stopped by our booth and I had to complement her on her beaded necklace. Turns out she made it herself! Stop by her Etsy shop and have a look at her beautiful beaded hair accessories.
I love this necklace so, so much. Intricate beading like this is seriously underrated these days.
I tried on a few of KC’s Hats’ feather hair accessories and I fell in love with them. I think we need more feather accessories in our daily lives.
I don't think anyone can look bad in a birdcage feather veil like this.
There were SO many great vendors so I’m sorry to have to pick and choose like this. I highly encourage everyone to visit the Wedding Co. vendor directory and go through them all!!
